Iliad Italia is expanding the availability of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) to a growing number of existing mobile customers subscribed to plans costing less than 9.99 euros per month. While the service remains officially restricted to higher-tier plans, an increasing number of users on budget tariffs are reporting automatic activation of the feature.
VoLTE, or Voice over LTE, is a technology that allows voice calls to be transmitted over the 4G LTE network rather than switching the connection back to 3G or 2G during a call. This typically results in higher audio quality and faster call setup times.
Since May 29, 2024, Iliad Italia has officially made VoLTE available only to customers with plans priced at 9.99 euros per month or higher. This official eligibility includes the Giga 200 and Giga 250 plans, which are priced at 9.99 euros and 11.99 euros respectively, as well as the Giga Prime plan launched on April 16, 2026, which costs 12.99 euros per month.
The company’s official documentation and technical transparency pages specify that to use the service, a customer must avere attiva un’offerta con il VoLTE incluso
(have an active offer with VoLTE included). Under these guidelines, any mobile offer with a monthly cost below 9.99 euros is officially unsupported for VoLTE.
Despite these official requirements, a gradual rollout to lower-cost plans has been observed. A trial phase began in mid-April 2025, which primarily involved customers on voice and data plans costing 7.99 euros per month. This experimental phase allowed a selected group of users to access 4G calling despite their plan’s official limitations.
In the weeks leading up to May 14, 2026, there has been a notable increase in reports from existing customers on plans below the 9.99 euro threshold who have received automatic enablement of VoLTE. This suggests that the operator is widening the scope of the service beyond its initial experimental group.
For users on lower-cost plans who do not have automatic activation and require the service, Iliad’s official position remains that they must request a plan change. The supported alternatives for VoLTE access are the plans priced at 9.99 euros, 11.99 euros, or 12.99 euros per month.
