JAKARTA (AP) — Saudi Arabia is cracking down on individuals attempting to perform the Hajj pilgrimage using unauthorized visas. Authorities announced Wednesday that pilgrims found violating visa regulations will face considerable fines and potential deportation.

The Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia has made it clear: individuals entering the country on visit or Umrah visas are strictly prohibited from undertaking the Hajj. According to Gulf News, violators will be subject to a fine of 10,000 Saudi Riyals (SAR), equivalent to approximately 45.2 million Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
The warning serves as a deterrent, aiming to prevent Umrah visa holders from circumventing established regulations and avoiding penalties. The rule applies universally, encompassing Saudi citizens, expatriate residents, and international visitors attempting to enter Mecca without a valid Hajj permit.
Restricted Access to Holy Sites
The prohibition extends to several key locations integral to the Hajj pilgrimage:
- Mecca
- The Sacred Mosque
- Mina
- Arafat
- Muzdalifah

Repeat offenders face Increased Fines, Deportation
The Ministry of Tourism emphasized that the penalties apply without exception, irrespective of citizenship or legal status. Repeat offenders will face exponentially higher fines.
Furthermore,the Saudi government will deport individuals found to be using non-Hajj or illegal visas.Deportees will also be barred from re-entering saudi arabia for a period of 10 years.
