SCS Software released the Illinois downloadable content (DLC) for American Truck Simulator on May 14, 2026. The expansion makes the legendary Route 66 fully drivable within the simulation, starting from the route’s origin point in Chicago.
The project has been recognized as an official Centennial Project. According to the Route 66 Centennial project, the recreation aims to provide a new sense of scale and detail to the historic route, incorporating new vistas, depots, and various points of interest in areas adjacent to Route 66.
Map Expansion and Urban Centers
The Illinois DLC introduces 11 faithfully recreated cities to the game, including Chicago, Springfield, Rockford, and Peoria. In addition to these major urban centers, the expansion adds seven scenic towns, such as Chenoa and Macomb.

The map includes several iconic landmarks. In Chicago, players can visit the Buckingham Memorial Fountain, while Springfield features the State Capitol. The city of Rockford includes a meticulously recreated downtown area and the Rock Valley College.
Industrial and Logistics Integration
The expansion introduces new industries and cargo delivery options. These include a construction equipment dealer and factory, as well as marinas located on Lake Michigan and Rend Lake. The map also integrates Chicago’s international airport into the logistics network.
The DLC emphasizes Illinois’ role in the national rail network. Players can act as a vital link by picking up cargo from Chicago’s Intermodal hub and transporting it by truck to various destinations across the state.
Geography and Natural Landscapes
The DLC covers a diverse range of natural environments and driving conditions. The map includes wide-open plains, forested regions, and hilly terrain, contrasting with the bustling urban streets of the state’s larger cities.
Several prominent natural locations have been recreated, including:
- Lake Michigan
- The Mississippi River
- Rend Lake
- Shawnee National Forest
SCS Software first announced the Illinois expansion in February 2025. The DLC is currently available for purchase and download on the Steam platform.
