Illinois State Women’s Tennis Continues Winning Streak with Victory Over Chicago State

CHICAGO – The Illinois State Redbirds women’s tennis team extended their winning streak to four matches on Sunday morning, defeating Chicago State 6-1 in Chicago. The Redbirds now hold a record of 4-2 for the 2026 season.

Illinois State secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The duo of Sophie Marie Lowe and Vittoria Benedetti dominated their match at No. 3, winning 6-0 against Danina Hughes and Nadjema Morille of Chicago State. Nuria Sanz and Nicole Iosio then clinched the doubles point for the Redbirds with a 6-2 victory over Mackenzie King and Nikita Liyanage.

The Redbirds continued their strong performance into singles play, winning matches on courts 2 through 6. Benedetti defeated King 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot, while Iosio secured a win over Liyanage with a final score of 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 4. Sanz also achieved a decisive victory at the No. 5 spot, defeating Danina Hughes 6-1, 6-2. Emma Lindh added to the Redbirds’ success with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nadjema Morille at No. 6.

The most competitive match of the day came at the No. 2 singles position, where Silvia Pomarolli faced Camila Sanchez. Pomarolli ultimately prevailed after a hard-fought three-set match, winning the final set 10-6 in a tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets 6-4 and 2-6, respectively.

Chicago State earned their lone point of the match at the No. 1 singles position, where Karolina Skowronska defeated Lana Caculovic 6-0, 6-0.

The Redbirds will return home next Sunday, February 15, to host a doubleheader against Missouri at the Evergreen Racquet Club. The first match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., with the second match following at approximately 4 p.m.
