Illinois Universities Excel in Global Rankings

two Illinois institutions earned top spots in the latest U.S.News & World Report “Best Global Universities” rankings. The annual list, now in its 11th edition, evaluates universities based on factors such as research reputation, publications, and citations.
While U.S. universities dominate the rankings, institutions from other countries also play a critically important role. Northwestern University in Evanston secured the 24th spot globally, making it the highest-ranked school in Illinois. The University of Chicago, located on the city’s South Side, followed closely at No. 26.
Among Midwest schools, only the University of Michigan, ranked No. 21, surpassed northwestern. Harvard University, MIT and Stanford University claimed the top three spots worldwide.
