National Science Popularization Day: A Celebration of Science and Technology
The third weekend of September marks the National Science Popularization Day, a celebration of science and technology. This year, the launching ceremony of the 2024 Suqian “National Science Popularization Day” took place on the morning of September 14. The event featured various science popularization activities, interactive experiences, and exhibits that allowed citizens to experience the wonders of science firsthand.
The event drew a large crowd to the square of the Cultural and Sports Center of Sucheng New District. Visitors had access to a variety of popular science leaflets on topics such as disaster prevention, healthy diet, and anti-fraud. The staff were on hand to answer questions and provide insights into the world of science. The highlight of the event was the 20 interactive science devices that combined fun and knowledge, including human power generation and 3D projection.

Exhibits and Displays: A Showcase of Innovation
The exhibition area of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Suqian University was a major draw, featuring a dancing robot that drew applause from the crowd. The robot dog exhibit was also a hit, with its ability to move forward, backward, and turn around in response to hand gestures. The children were fascinated by the robot dog and gathered around to witness its capabilities.
Student Gao Yuze, who attended the event, expressed her enthusiasm for the science popularization activities. “I saw many interesting things here, and I really like it. It’s really interesting,” she said.
According to the staff of Suqian College, the exhibits were designed, assembled, and programmed independently by students under the guidance of teachers. Wang Yongqi, a student from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Suqian University, explained the features of the robot dog. “We have also made some autonomous following functions for the robot dog. For example, if a person is very close to it, it will retreat. If the person is far away from it, it will follow the person. It’s like a small pet. We want to popularize knowledge to everyone and respond to the call of the country.”

Upcoming Science Popularization Activities
This year, the key activities of Jiangsu Province’s “National Science Popularization Day” will take place from September 15 to 25. During this period, various parts of the city will host a series of science popularization activities.
Hu Maoyu, a member of the Party Leadership Group of Sucheng District Science and Technology Association, emphasized the importance of cooperation with schools, communities, and enterprises to promote science and technology. “We will provide the public with more opportunities to learn about science and technology and jointly promote social progress and development,” he said.
