The Evolving Landscape of Broadcast Infrastructure
Denver-based Imagine Communications is set to introduce the SNP-XS, a new addition to its Selenio Network processor (SNP) family, at IBC2025, taking place September 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam. this new processor is designed to deliver the power of the SNP platform in a remarkably compact, deploy-anywhere 2RU form factor. The SNP-XS addresses a growing need for adaptable and space-efficient processing solutions in modern broadcast environments.
A Proven Platform, Now More Versatile
Imagine Communications has shipped over 5,000 SNP units as its initial release in 2017, collectively powering more than 150,000 video streams and 2 million audio streams globally. The SNP-XS builds upon the established, field-proven architecture of the flagship SNP platform, offering full compatibility with existing workflows. It supports industry-standard SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 2022-6 IP protocols, while together maintaining interoperability with traditional SDI-based systems. This makes the SNP-XS an ideal solution for broadcasters and media companies navigating the transition to IP or optimizing existing SDI infrastructure.
According to John Mailhot, senior vice president of product management at Imagine Communications, “IP technology is no longer limited to tier 1 broadcasters and large-scale projects – it’s become the clear path forward for media operations of all sizes – making SNP-XS exactly the right tool at the right time.”
Addressing Diverse Deployment Scenarios
The SNP-XS’s compact size and flexible I/O configurations make it suitable for a wide range of applications. These include edge deployments, facility expansions, remote routing endpoints, and mobile production environments where space is often at a premium. mailhot further explains that even within large facilities, there are numerous smaller applications – such as edit suites and standup studios – where a compact, high-quality processor is essential. The SNP-XS’s low-noise design and analog audio breakout capabilities further enhance its suitability for these environments.
The processor runs all 16 current SNP applications out of the box, including critical functions like UHD and HDR conversion, multiviewers, master control, and JPEG XS encoding. It also shares the same software releases, apis, control protocols, and feature licenses as the larger SNP platform, ensuring a consistent and streamlined deployment experience.
Technical Specifications and Availability
the SNP-XS is designed for 2RU rack mounting and boasts ultra-quiet operation, minimizing noise pollution in sensitive broadcast environments. Its flexible I/O options allow for customization to meet specific workflow requirements. Imagine Communications will be demonstrating the SNP-XS at its IBC2025 stand, 1.B73, providing attendees with a firsthand look at its capabilities.
