Imam Ashur is preparing to appeal against his 6-month prison sentence
Player Imam Ashour’s legal team plans to appeal the recent decision against him by the Sheikh Zayed Misdemeanor Court of Appeals. This court overturned a previous ruling and sentenced Ashour, also known as Metwali Abdul-Ghani, to six months in prison and ordered him to pay criminal costs within ten days.
On Tuesday, the Sheikh Zayed Misdemeanor Court of Appeals accepted the public prosecution’s appeal. This appeal was against Ashour’s earlier acquittal for allegedly assaulting security personnel at a mall. The initial court had found Ashour not guilty of these charges.
Following the acquittal, the public prosecution submitted a detailed memorandum. The prosecution argued that strong evidence pointed to Ashour’s involvement in the incident. This evidence included witness testimonies, security camera footage, and the results of an investigation that supported the prosecution’s claims.
The case highlights the importance of appeals in the legal system, particularly when new evidence or interpretations arise.
