Imam Ashur refused to miss Al-Ahly and Al-Bank matches in the league
Imam Ashour, a midfielder for Al-Ahly Club, will watch from the stands during his team’s match against Al-Ahly Bank in the Egyptian League Championship. He aims to support his teammates as he faces a crisis within the club.
Ashour recently apologized on Instagram for his reaction to being left out of the match at Abidjan Stadium last Tuesday. In his post, he expressed gratitude to his teammates and accepted his punishment, which included a fine of one million pounds and a one-week suspension.
He stated, “I apologize for any mistake that upset me, and I accept the punishment.” He also cautioned against misunderstandings that could harm his relationship with the club and its fans. Ashour expressed pride in being part of Al-Ahly and acknowledged the fans’ support.
The tension escalated when Ashour voiced his frustration after not being included in the game, leading to a confrontation with team captain Mohamed El-Shenawi. Al-Ahly won that match against an Ivorian team with a score of 4-2.
The team is preparing to face Al-Ahly Bank at Al-Salam Stadium, aiming to build on their recent successes in the league. Al-Ahly won the Egyptian League title last season and hopes to continue their winning streak after strong performances in their opening matches of the new season.
The league format has changed, with teams playing a total of 25 matches instead of 34, allowing a quicker conclusion to the tournament.
