TORREÓN,Coahuila (AP) — The Municipal Institute of Culture and Education (IMCE) will participate in the Coahuila International Book Fair (FILC) 2025 when it comes to Torreón,according to Director Antonio Mendez Vigatá.The city will host a stand selling books published by the municipal administration.
FILC Support and Logistics
Vigatá said the IMCE will support the fair by providing a stand. He noted the Torreón event will likely follow the Arteaga event, allowing stands to relocate.Details of the Torreón program and participating publishers remain unknown.
“It is marvelous that the international Book Fair from Coahuila comes to Torreón,” Vigatá said. ”We will support putting a stand at this fair… It has some logic that it does not start on the same date, as surely manny of the stands that will be in Arteaga will move here. I suppose that is logic, but I don’t know the details.”
While the IMCE’s direct contribution to the FILC in Torreón is limited to the book stand, Vigatá indicated a greater level of participation is planned for Saltillo. he explained that while they were invited to present books, it didn’t make sense since they already showcase their publications. though, Torreón authors will present their books in Arteaga.
Children’s and Youth Book Fair to be Itinerant
The fourth edition of the Torreón Children’s and Youth Book Fair will proceed under the current administration, Vigatá confirmed. This year, for the second time, the fair will adopt an itinerant format, bringing books directly to young readers.
Vigatá emphasized the importance of focusing on younger audiences to promote reading. He noted that while children’s literature is present at most book fairs, the Torreón fair specifically aims to cultivate young readers and encourage children’s book writing.
“We already know that in all book fairs there is some children’s literature, but we think it is crucial to lead to that and towards what has been the Children’s Book Writing,” Vigatá said.
He added that previous editions have featured authors discussing their creative processes in writing for children.
Fair History and Approach
Vigatá recounted the fair’s evolution, stating, “The first year, the fair [was] in the sheep, where the Cultural Center of the North will be, and when I was still operating as a school.”
He continued, “The second essay (of the fair) we did in the Velaria of the DIF City, and the third year we did it with an itinerant modality because we felt that it was more logical to approach the public than to expect them to come to us. I think that the mixed modality, of having some activities in the watchman of DIF City and, on the other hand, move, it worked very well.”
Citizens can support the project through children’s book donations.
