On Saturday afternoon, January 24th, teh deputy and vice-president of Chega, Pedro Frazão, shared a video on Facebook and Instagram of someone sharpening a knife on what appears to be public transport, stating that “it is indeed unacceptable to see someone sharpening a prohibited knife inside the metro as if nothing is happening, in an attitude of intimidation and threat”.
These images and the report, lasting approximately two minutes and 36 seconds, recorded at one of the terminals at rome airport – Fiumicino, were later shared on the social network X, already exceeding 345 thousand views on these three social networks, where Pedro Frazão also claims that the person in the images is an immigrant. “Don’t you find this situation in the video circulating around of an immigrant inside a subway car sharpening, with the greatest shamelessness, a prohibited knife, while hundreds of citizens are in the same car, on the same subway and are traveling peacefully and even paying a ticket?”, the deputy questions.
Pedro Frazão further adds that “this is inadmissible because in Portugal and in Europe the legislation does not see this object as a kitchen knife but as a white weapon because it is inside public transport” and defends that “whoever comes to our country and who comes to Europe must comply with the laws and respect our basic rules of coexistence.”
“Those who do not do so must be identified, held accountable and, if necessary, expelled by the authorities to their country of origin. It’s catch the plane and ‘zzzt’ back to their land”, because “we here demand security, respect and order on public transport”, he claims at the end of the video message which ends with graphics and the Chega logo.
