Researchers found that adults with hematologic malignancies receiving anticancer therapy who used an ePRO-based remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM) platform experienced a significant reduction in infection-related health care utilization compared to those who did not use the platform.
The study, conducted across five community clinics with the Canopy ePRO-based RTM platform integrated into electronic medical records, compared outcomes between patients enrolled in the RTM program and those receiving standard care. The dual primary outcomes measured were infection-related emergency department visits and hospital admissions, along with outpatient antibiotic use.
Results showed that use of RTM in patients with hematologic malignancies reduced the risk of hospitalization due to infection by 29%, a finding that was statistically significant (p < 0.0125). This reduction in infection-related hospitalizations was accompanied by a decrease in overall infection-related health care utilization and associated costs of care.
