Impersonation Scandal: Woman Fakes Nursing Credentials in Los Angeles Hospitals
Woman Impersonates Nurse at Los Angeles Hospitals
A 44-year-old woman, Amanda Leeann Porter, has been arrested for pretending to be a registered nurse in several Los Angeles County hospitals. The Burbank Police Department reported that she oversaw about 60 patients while working at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
Porter obtained a nursing position in April by impersonating a real nurse from out of state. Hospital staff eventually realized she was not a licensed nurse. During her fraudulent employment, she received two paychecks.
Authorities confirmed that Porter does not have a nursing license and is on federal probation for previous fraud. They believe she used false identities to gain employment in other local hospitals. Porter is being held without bail at the Los Angeles County Central Regional Detention Facility. She has pleaded not guilty to charges of identity theft, false impersonation, and grand theft. Her next court date is set for December 2.
