The Independent Silent Film Festival is returning for its seventh year, scheduling a single-night showcase on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Avogadro’s Number in Fort Collins, Colorado, according to event organizers. Running from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM with a PG-13 rating, the event centers on an exploration of live musical scoring paired with short silent films created by international and local independent artists.

Creatures and Monsters Theme Shapes ISFF 7.0

According to official event details, the 2026 festival adopts the theme “Creatures & Monsters.” The program invites audiences to explore physical theater, movement, and surreal soundscapes that examine external creatures, internal monsters, and the worlds existing between them. Attendees are encouraged to dress in classic film star attire, dapper cinema glamour, or costumes aligned with the monster theme to compete for event-specific swag provided by LuneAseas.

Global Filmmakers and Colorado Musicians Collaborate

The festival curates contemporary independent filmmakers alongside musicians who perform original live scores. According to event schedules, the roster of participating short film creators includes twigmedialab, David Bradburn, David Couture, colabDM, Ren Curry, Dmitry Marin, Valentina Priolo, José Crúzio, Martin Gerigk, Markus Bentsen, Michael Arche, and Austin Cole. Musical accompaniment is provided by live acts creating newly composed scores and performances. The lineup features Quarkestra, George Sarah, Rae McAlister, Brother Saturn, Blood and Thunder, Riley Ann, Haley Harkin, Kill Your Darlings, RAGZ, and The Body of Elen West, alongside a specific spotlight dedicated to Colorado-based collaborators. Returning mascots LuneA and Tic, described by organizers as curious RKO junkyard characters, will guide audiences through the evening’s program.

Origins of the Not-So-Silent Film Festival

According to historical background provided by LuneAseas, the project originated in the summer of 2020 when pandemic restrictions halted the live performing arts sector. Rather than suspending production, the organizers established a remote framework where dancers, physical performers, filmmakers, and visual artists generated short silent films. These projects were distributed across long distances to independent musicians and composers who developed original scores inspired by the visuals. Over seven years of operation, the festival has supported more than 120 artists from the United States and international locations, establishing partnerships between movement artists, composers, and actors. Past iterations have featured participants connected to organizations such as Wonderbound, MOMIX, Pilobolus, Six Degrees Dance NYC, Evolving Doors, and Life/Art Dance Ensemble, alongside international contributors from France, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
