India Dismisses Canadian Media Claims on Nijjar’s Killing as ‘Ludicrous’ Smear Campaign
India Rejects Canadian Allegations on Nijjar Killing
India has firmly rejected Canadian media reports claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was aware of a plot to kill pro-Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs labeled these allegations as “ludicrous” and called for their outright dismissal.
The controversy stems from a report by the Globe and Mail, which linked Nijjar’s death to the Indian government. A senior Canadian security official suggested that Canadian agencies believed PM Modi had knowledge of Nijjar’s death and other violent plots in Canada.
The relationship between India and Canada has worsened recently. India raised concerns about extremism and anti-India activities on Canadian soil, urging Canadian officials to act against these threats. In response to allegations of Indian involvement in Nijjar’s assassination made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, India described these claims as “absurd” and “motivated.”
Tensions escalated further when India recalled six diplomats from Canada, after they were identified as “persons of interest” in the ongoing investigation into Nijjar’s killing.
