Dozens Killed in India Pharmaceutical Factory explosion

HYDERABAD, India – A massive explosion and subsequent fire at a pharmaceutical factory in Telangana state, southern India, has claimed the lives of at least 36 people.The pharmaceutical factory explosion also left dozens injured, according to authorities.
The state’s fire services director, G.V. Narayana Rao, said that 34 charred bodies were recovered from the Sigachi Industries accident site, located in an industrial area approximately 31 miles from Hyderabad.Rao added that two more workers died from their burns in a hospital.
Crews continue to remove debris from the gutted pharmaceutical factory to determine if any other workers remain trapped. Nearly three dozen injured workers are receiving treatment at area hospitals.
“The whole structure of the factory has collapsed,” Rao said. “Fire has been doused, and we hope to finish removing the debris in the next few hours.” The cause of the pharmaceutical factory explosion is under inquiry.
