Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the first SkyCast
system in India at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi on May 29, 2026. The introduction of this system marks the beginning of a phased technological rollout across the country’s aviation infrastructure.
The deployment at IGI Airport serves as the primary installation for the system, which is intended to be scaled across multiple aviation hubs. Following the Delhi installation, the government plans to implement the facility at the upcoming Jewar Airport, with subsequent expansions planned for other major airports throughout India.
During the inauguration, Dr. Jitendra Singh outlined the roadmap for the system’s integration into the national aviation network.

Expansion to Jewar Airport
The selection of Jewar Airport, formally known as the Noida International Airport, as the second site for the SkyCast system aligns with the project’s development as a critical aviation hub for the National Capital Region (NCR). The airport is designed to decongest IGI Airport by absorbing a significant portion of the passenger and cargo traffic in Northern India.
Jewar Airport is being developed as a greenfield project, allowing for the integration of modern technological systems like SkyCast during its construction and operationalization phases. The facility is expected to support high-capacity international and domestic flights, enhancing the logistics and transit capabilities of the region.
The strategic placement of the system at both the primary hub in New Delhi and the secondary hub in Jewar is intended to create a synchronized technological corridor for air traffic and operations within the NCR.
Strategic Significance of IGI Airport
Indira Gandhi International Airport remains one of the busiest airports globally and serves as the primary gateway to India. As a central node for international diplomacy, trade, and tourism, the airport manages a vast volume of air traffic, making it the logical starting point for the introduction of new aviation systems.
The integration of the SkyCast system at IGI is part of a broader effort to modernize the airport’s operational capabilities. The facility’s role in handling a diverse range of aircraft and flight schedules necessitates the adoption of advanced systems to maintain safety and efficiency standards.
By establishing the first SkyCast facility here, the Ministry can monitor the system’s performance under the highest possible traffic loads before rolling it out to smaller or newly developed airports.
India’s Aviation Infrastructure Goals
The rollout of the SkyCast system is situated within India’s larger strategy to expand its aviation footprint and improve air connectivity. The government has been pursuing a policy of increasing the number of operational airports and upgrading existing ones to meet international standards.

This initiative complements previous efforts to democratize air travel and improve the efficiency of ground and air operations across various states. The focus on technological upgrades is intended to reduce delays and improve the overall reliability of the national airspace.
The planned expansion to other airports across India suggests a centralized approach to upgrading aviation technology, ensuring that regional airports benefit from the same systems implemented at major international hubs. This standardization is expected to facilitate smoother transitions for aircraft moving between different Indian aviation jurisdictions.
The Ministry’s focus on the NCR region through both IGI and Jewar airports underscores the importance of the capital’s aviation capacity in supporting India’s economic growth and international connectivity.
