Indonesian Lawmaker Calls for Audit of regional Government Spending on food and beverages
A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives is urging the Minister of Home Affairs to conduct a thorough review of food and beverage budgets across all regional governments. The call comes after the minister reported finding instances of wasteful spending, including one region that spent the equivalent of $63,000 (Rp 1 billion) on food and drink in a single day.
“I believe we need to ask the Minister to scrutinize all food and beverage budgets, not just at the regional level, but also within the regional councils of districts and cities,” said Bahtra banong, Deputy Chairman of commission II of the DPR, at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
Bahtra expressed surprise that regional governments continue to overspend, particularly given President Prabowo Subianto’s focus on fiscal obligation.
