Indonesia Cautiously Watches Syria‘s Transition, Calls for Inclusive Government

Jakarta – Indonesia is taking a measured approach to the recent regime change in Syria, emphasizing ⁢the need for a stable and inclusive government rather than rushing to recognize the new leadership.

Rolliansyah Soemirat, spokesperson for Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, ⁣stated that the international community’s priority should be⁤ restoring⁤ normalcy to Syria.⁢ “Indonesia will not ‍get caught up in rushing the issue of recognizing or not recognizing (the new Syrian government),” Soemirat said. “What’s most important is how (the⁤ situation in) Syria can return to⁤ normal.”

The new Syrian government is expected to ⁣be formed by a coalition of anti-regime groups ⁢with diverse backgrounds and interests. Indonesia is closely monitoring the transition ⁢process and‍ urging all stakeholders to agree on a roadmap for Syria’s⁤ recovery and ⁤future ⁣progress.

“We call on stakeholders in Syria to agree on ⁢a joint roadmap for the recovery and progress of Syria in the future,as well as to form an inclusive authority for⁤ the prosperity of the⁤ people,” Soemirat emphasized.

He also stressed the importance of the new government ⁢upholding UN‍ Security Council resolutions that the Assad regime failed to‍ implement. “There are still many resolutions related to Syria issued ‍by ‍the UN Security Council that, of course, must be carried out‍ and implemented by parties that have ⁣been directly involved in the conflict in ⁤Syria,” Soemirat remarked.

Indonesia remains committed to advocating for Syria on the international stage, actively raising the⁢ issue in various forums, including the⁣ UN.

Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta echoed the call for inclusive governance⁢ and political consensus in Syria.⁤ “National political consensus, peaceful ⁣democratic transition, and reconstruction or economic recovery and development must be‍ Syria’s priorities in the next stage,” matta stated.

He expressed hope that ⁣the regime change would pave the way for a better future for ⁤the Syrian people, ⁣urging all parties to prioritize their safety and security.
