Steven Lyons, a Scottish man described by law enforcement as a senior figure in an international crime syndicate, was deported from Indonesia to Amsterdam on April 8, 2026. Lyons, 45, is currently being held in the Netherlands under a European Arrest Warrant issued by a judge in Malaga, Spain, marking the beginning of a formal extradition process to Spanish authorities.
The deportation follows the arrest of Lyons on March 28, 2026, shortly after he arrived at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali on a flight from Singapore. At the time of his detention, Lyons was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice. His arrest occurred on the same day his wife, Amanda Lyons, was taken into custody in Dubai.
Criminal Allegations and Network
Indonesian and international authorities have identified Lyons as a leader of a wide-reaching criminal enterprise. Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya stated that Lyons was alleged to be the leader of a large-scale transnational criminal organisation engaged in drug trafficking and money laundering
.
According to Untung Widyatmoko, secretary of Interpol’s Indonesia bureau, the criminal group led by Lyons operated across multiple jurisdictions, including Scotland, Spain, Turkey, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office further characterized Lyons as a mafia boss and Interpol fugitive
in an official release confirming his removal from the country.
Deportation Process
Following his arrest on March 28, Lyons was held in Bali. On March 29, 2026, he was photographed being escorted from police headquarters in Denpasar wearing bright orange overalls and a black face mask, with his hands bound by plastic cable ties.
The transfer process began on April 7, 2026, when the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office and the NCB Secretariat of Interpol Indonesia flew Lyons from Denpasar to Jakarta. On April 8, 2026, he was escorted by officers from Spain’s Guardia Civil onto a flight from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
The flight landed in Amsterdam shortly after 10:30 BST on April 8, 2026. While initial reports suggested a direct deportation to Malaga, Spain, Lyons is currently detained in the Netherlands to satisfy the legal requirements of the European Arrest Warrant.
Associates and Related Investigations
Bali police officials confirmed that Lyons did not travel alone to Indonesia. Two associates arrived with him at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on March 28 but managed to evade detection by authorities. One of these individuals has been identified as Stephen Larwood.
Larwood had previously been arrested alongside Lyons in Dubai in September 2025. Reports indicate that Larwood was released in October 2025 and ordered to leave the United Arab Emirates immediately.
The current legal proceedings against Lyons in the Netherlands are expected to result in his transfer to Spain, though officials have indicated there may be a delay before he is flown to Malaga to face the charges related to drug trafficking and money laundering.
