JAKARTA,Indonesia — A​ planned new national history book in Indonesia ⁣is‍ drawing criticism from academics and human rights organizations,who fear it will conceal dark chapters⁤ of the nation’s past and stifle freedom‍ of speech. The role of historical narratives is under scrutiny.

A preliminary draft of the book omits several cases of gross human rights violations recognized by the National commission on Human Rights. Of⁤ the 17 cases acknowledged,onyl two are included in the draft. The Indonesian government faces pressure to address these ‍concerns.
