Jakarta, Indonesia ⁢ -⁤ Indonesia is calling for increased ​details‌ sharing among ‍Southeast Asian nations​ to effectively combat the growing threat of‍ drug smuggling through airports. This call ⁤came​ during the ‌14th meeting of the ASEAN ‌airport Interdiction‌ Task force (AAITF), held virtually on December 12, 2024.

Muhamad Irham Anwar, head of the‌ National Narcotics agency’s (BNN) Sub-Directorate for Regional and International Cooperation, emphasized Indonesia’s position as a major destination for illegal ‍narcotics in the region.​ “The 14th⁣ AAITF​ meeting is ⁣a⁣ crucial ⁤step in our collaborative efforts with ASEAN countries to exchange vital information and‍ strengthen‍ airport security ⁢measures against drug smuggling syndicates,” anwar stated.

He expressed hope that these regular meetings⁢ would provide valuable insights and foster stronger cooperation ‍in tackling cross-border drug trafficking.
