Jakarta, Indonesia - Indonesia is calling for increased details sharing among Southeast Asian nations to effectively combat the growing threat of drug smuggling through airports. This call came during the 14th meeting of the ASEAN airport Interdiction Task force (AAITF), held virtually on December 12, 2024.
Muhamad Irham Anwar, head of the National Narcotics agency’s (BNN) Sub-Directorate for Regional and International Cooperation, emphasized Indonesia’s position as a major destination for illegal narcotics in the region. “The 14th AAITF meeting is a crucial step in our collaborative efforts with ASEAN countries to exchange vital information and strengthen airport security measures against drug smuggling syndicates,” anwar stated.
He expressed hope that these regular meetings would provide valuable insights and foster stronger cooperation in tackling cross-border drug trafficking.
