Indonesian Migrant workers in South Korea Safe Amid Political Turmoil
Jakarta – The Indonesian government is closely monitoring the situation in South Korea following recent political unrest, ensuring the safety and well-being of Indonesian migrant workers in the country.
Minister of Protection of indonesian Migrant Workers Abdul Kadir Karding assured the public that his ministry is actively tracking developments and coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare contingency plans.
“We continue to monitor the development and hopefully, there will be no problems,” minister Karding stated during a Migrant Day event in Jakarta. “We have coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to carry out mitigation efforts.”
While expressing hope for a swift resolution to the political situation, Minister Karding emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting Indonesian workers abroad.
“hopefully, everything will be OK,” he added.The ministry is also working to expedite the deployment of over 13,000 Indonesian migrant workers who have been approved to work in South Korea.
“We are actively seeking a solution to expedite the deployment of these workers,” Minister Karding explained.
He further highlighted the importance of managing the number of migrant workers to avoid potential sociopolitical impacts in both Indonesia and South korea.”So, the number should not be too much, so that it does not have an impact on the sociopolitical conditions in the country,” he said.
The ministry is currently engaged in negotiations with the South Korean government to ensure the timely departure of the waiting workers.
