Indonesia Sees Surge in International Arrivals, golden Visa program Booming
Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesia is experiencing a significant surge in international arrivals, with over 46 million people crossing its borders this year, marking a 12% increase compared to 2023. This influx of travelers is boosting the country’s tourism adn economy,according to Acting Director General of Immigration Saffar Muhammad Godam.
“From January 1st to december 15th, we recorded 46,735,310 arrivals,” Godam announced during a press conference on December 17th. “this includes both Indonesian citizens and foreign nationals entering through air, sea, and land routes.”
Air travel remains the most popular mode of entry, accounting for over 36 million arrivals. Sea travel follows with over 8 million, and land crossings with over 1.7 million.
Australia Leads the Pack
Among foreign nationals, Australia takes the lead with over 1.6 million arrivals, followed closely by China with 1.5 million. Malaysia, Singapore, and India round out the top five, highlighting the diverse range of nationalities visiting Indonesia.
This surge in arrivals has also led to a significant increase in visa and stay permit applications. The Directorate General of Immigration has issued over 9.3 million Visit Stay Permits (ITK) this year, a staggering 31-fold increase compared to 2023.
Golden Visa Program Attracts Investors
Adding to the positive trend is the success of Indonesia’s Golden Visa program, launched in July 2024. As of December 10th, the program has attracted 471 applicants, bringing in a total investment of Rp9 trillion (approximately $580 million USD).
The Golden Visa offers several attractive benefits to investors,including extended stays,priority immigration services,and exemption from the limited stay permit requirement.
“The golden Visa program is proving to be a valuable tool for attracting foreign investment and boosting our economy,” Godam stated.
Record-breaking Revenue
The influx of travelers and the success of the Golden Visa program have contributed to record-breaking non-tax state revenue for the Directorate General of Immigration. As of December 15th, the agency has collected Rp8.58 trillion, exceeding its 2024 target by 142%.
“This is the highest revenue we’ve ever recorded,” Godam emphasized.The surge in international arrivals and the success of the Golden Visa program paint a positive picture for Indonesia’s tourism and investment landscape.
