Tangible Support Rooted in Constitutional Mandate
Foreign Minister Sugiono formally declared the impending delivery of the rice aid during a pro-Palestine rally at the National Monument (Monas) on Sunday. He emphasized that this initiative represents “tangible actions from Indonesia to support the struggle of the Palestinian people,” a commitment he described as “mandated by the constitution and the national commitment.”
“We will also send our food assistance in the form of 10,000 tons of rice to Palestine soon,” Sugiono stated, underscoring the urgency and importance of the aid.
This latest pledge builds upon Indonesia’s previous humanitarian efforts. The minister revealed that Indonesia has already distributed over 4,400 tons of logistics and disbursed hundreds of billions of rupiahs in humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Presidential Commitment to the Palestinian Cause
The unwavering support for palestine is a cornerstone of President prabowo Subianto’s administration, reflecting his commitment to making the Palestinian cause a central agenda item from day one. president Prabowo firmly believes that Palestinian independence is intrinsically linked to Indonesia’s own national struggle, as the nation fundamentally rejects all forms of colonialism worldwide. Consequently,Indonesia remains steadfast in its advocacy for the Palestinian cause on every available platform.”President Prabowo has reaffirmed Indonesia’s stance (on Palestine) at ASEAN, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and other multilateral forums,” Sugiono noted. “My duty as a foreign minister is to translate this stance into real actions.”
Preceding Preparations and Future Initiatives
The decision to provide 10,000 tons of rice assistance to Palestine was initially announced in July by Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, acting on President Prabowo’s direct instructions. The delivery logistics are being coordinated with the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta, with Indonesia prepared to dispatch the aid at any moment.
Beyond immediate relief, Indonesia is also exploring long-term sustenance solutions. The nation has allocated up to 20,000 hectares of farmland in South Sumatra and Kalimantan for joint management with Palestine, aiming to bolster their food security and ensure a sustainable supply. This forward-thinking approach highlights Indonesia’s comprehensive strategy to support the Palestinian people, addressing both immediate needs and future resilience.
