Government Urges Social Media Platforms to Combat Online Gambling

The Indonesian government pressures major social media companies to help combat online gambling. Officials highlight the companies’ role in spreading this issue while threatening potential fines.

Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid expressed disappointment about the slow response from companies like Meta, TikTok, and X. She noted this in relation to President Prabowo Subianto’s call for action.

Hafid specifically called out Meta, TikTok, and X, urging them to take a stronger stance. She emphasized that it is essential for these platforms to act, as they benefit from Indonesia‘s large online user base.

The government aims for a more proactive approach from these platforms to support its fight against online gambling.
