Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Urges Participation in Upcoming Elections
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar encouraged Indonesians to participate in the regional elections scheduled for November 27, 2024. He expressed his hope for a smooth election process following his umrah pilgrimage at the Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia.
Umar emphasized the importance of showcasing Indonesia’s democratic values. He stated, “Let’s demonstrate the beauty of Indonesia in implementing democratic practices.” He believes that whoever is elected will be the best choice and hopes they will work towards community welfare.
He prayed for the election to proceed without issues while in Saudi Arabia, where he met with the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah to discuss preparations for the 2025 hajj.
The regional elections will take place simultaneously across 34 provinces and 508 districts/cities, except for the Special Region of Yogyakarta and areas in Jakarta. Umar called on citizens to vote freely and make choices based on their beliefs.
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) also reminded Muslims of their duty to elect leaders, stating that choosing a leader is essential for maintaining governance and national life.
