The 2026 All England Open Badminton Championships, set to take place at the Utilita Arena Birmingham from to , will see a significant influx of new Indonesian talent. A 24-player squad has been named, featuring several debutants eager to make their mark on the prestigious Super 1000 tournament.
Among those making their first appearance at the All England Championships is Alwi Farhan, a rising star in Indonesian badminton. He will be joined by fellow debutants Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin, a men’s doubles pairing, Rahmat Hidayat, Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum, another new doubles team, Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Pasaribu, and the mixed doubles duo of Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah.
The Indonesian contingent isn’t solely comprised of newcomers. The squad also includes established players, including Jonatan Christie in men’s singles, and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in men’s doubles. A notable pairing will see Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja team up with Singapore’s Hee Yong Kai Terry in the mixed doubles competition.
Eng Hian, Head of Development and Achievement Division of the All Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI), emphasized the importance of this opportunity for the debutants. “Competing at the Super 1000 level is a test of quality and mental strength,” Hian stated. “We want them to bravely face the pressure, learn from major matches, and deliver their best performance.”
The All England Championship is viewed by the PBSI not just as a title-winning opportunity, but as a crucial benchmark for athlete development. The tournament demands peak physical, technical, tactical, and mental preparation, pitting competitors against the world’s best. It’s a proving ground for consistency and the development of a champion mindset.
To ensure the team is fully prepared for the challenges ahead, the Indonesian squad will undergo an acclimatization program in Milton Keynes, approximately 120 kilometers south of Birmingham, from to . The team will then relocate to Birmingham on to allow ample time to adjust to the competition venue. Hian explained that Milton Keynes was selected based on its training facilities, athlete comfort, and its effectiveness in facilitating adaptation to a tournament of this caliber. “We want the players to be fully ready, physically, technically, and mentally, when they step onto the court,” he added.
