Indonesia’s Historic 2024 Regional Elections: Over 500 Regions Vote
Indonesia‘s Largest Regional Elections Begin
Indonesia is holding its first simultaneous regional elections today. More than 500 regions across the country are participating. The polling stations in western Indonesia opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 1 p.m. Jakarta time.
Voters in eastern provinces started voting two hours earlier, while central provinces began at 8 a.m.
A total of 202.8 million registered voters will participate. They will choose 37 governors, 93 mayors, and 415 regents, along with their deputies. Each voter will cast two ballots: one for the governor and one for either a mayor or regent, with the exception of Jakarta, where only the governor is elected.
Vote counting will start right after polling stations close. The counting process will continue until December 16, as stated by the chair of the General Elections Commission, Mochamad Afiffuddin.
