Indonesia Cracks Down on Visa Violations in Bali

Indonesian immigration teams continue to tackle visa abuse among foreigners in Bali. From November 12 to 15, 2024, they conducted a four-day sting operation, investigating 687 foreigners nationwide. In Bali, 14 individuals were arrested for violating visa conditions.

This initiative, known as Operation Jagratara, aims to eliminate visa abuse across the country. The program, managed by the Ministry of Immigration, focuses heavily on Bali and utilizes raids and checks in areas with suspected violations.

Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar M Godam, reported that 128 out of the 687 investigated faced legal action for various infractions, ranging from unauthorized work to illegal entry and stay. Specific violations included engaging in prostitution, working in beauty services, and selling goods without proper permits.

Godam emphasized the importance of this operation for maintaining national security and public trust in immigration practices. Surabaya immigration offices noted the highest number of violations, capturing 92 individuals, followed by Batam with 64, and Tanjung Priok with 48.

Notably, nine Russian nationals were among those misusing their visas. Additionally, a Brazilian, a Kazakh, and a Vietnamese national faced similar charges. Two Australian citizens were also apprehended for running an illegal vape business and were later deported.

Currently, two Russians and a Brazilian remain detained in Denpasar’s Immigration Detention Center for further investigation.
