The Department of Health (DS) is awaiting the clarification of the moast recent data to determine if it will finally declare an epidemic of the influenza, which would allow for the establishment of additional measures to contain the virus, access funds to increase citizen education, and expand vaccine administration in adults.
Health Secretary, Víctor Ramos, indicated this Monday that, during the past weeks, interagency coordination began in preparation for the possible declaration, which they estimate would cost around $2.1 million, of which $1.2 million would come from federal funds that can be accessed once the epidemic is declared, according to the criteria of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). To cover the rest, the agency is working with the Office of Management and Budget (OGP).
“People should not worry, people should take care, get vaccinated those who have not yet been vaccinated, cut the chains of contagion by not going to work or school when sick. That is a way to take care and cooperate with lowering these numbers,” said Dr. Ramos, in a telephone interview with El Nuevo Día.
