South Korean aerospace startup Innospace has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Canadian firm RSAT Space to expand its satellite launch services in North America, marking a strategic move to strengthen its presence in the region’s growing commercial and government space sectors.

Partnership Aims to Combine Launch Capabilities with Space Systems Expertise

The agreement, announced on Monday, April 27, 2026, brings together Innospace’s development of the Hanbit launch vehicle with RSAT Space’s expertise in space system integration, mission support, and infrastructure development. The collaboration is expected to target opportunities in Canadian government and private space programs, including projects related to Earth observation, communications, and national security satellites.

Innospace, founded in 2018, is developing the Hanbit series of small-to-medium launch vehicles designed for cost-effective and rapid deployment of satellites. The company has conducted multiple ground tests and plans to begin orbital launches from both domestic and international sites in the coming years. RSAT Space, headquartered in Montreal, specializes in end-to-end space mission solutions, including satellite integration, ground systems, and launch support for government and commercial clients.

Expanding Access to North American Markets

Under the MOU, the two companies will jointly pursue business opportunities in the North American market, particularly in Canada, while developing new business models that integrate launch services with advanced space systems. The partnership follows Innospace’s earlier letter of intent signed in March 2026 with Maritime Launch Services (MLS) to secure access to a launch site in Canada, establishing a foundation for recurring satellite launches in the region.

“This partnership represents a key milestone in advancing our launch service business in Canada and the broader North American market, while establishing an operational foundation to reliably support regional launch demand,” said Innospace Chief Executive Officer Kim Soo-jong.

“We look forward to working with Innospace to explore opportunities that support the growth of the space ecosystem and enable mission readiness for a broad range of stakeholders.”

Global Expansion Strategy

The MOU with RSAT Space is part of Innospace’s broader strategy to expand its global reach. In February 2026, the company signed a launch service distribution agreement with UK-based Commercial Space Technologies Ltd. (CST) to strengthen its presence in the European market. Leveraging the Malbusca Launch Center in Portugal and CST’s industry expertise, Innospace aims to address growing demand for small satellite launches in Europe through an end-to-end service model supported by a global network of launch sites.

Satellite Launch Canada

The partnership with RSAT Space is expected to enhance Innospace’s competitiveness in the North American market by combining its launch vehicle capabilities with RSAT’s infrastructure and mission support expertise. The collaboration targets sectors such as defense, environmental monitoring, and maritime surveillance, where demand for responsive and cost-effective satellite deployment is rising.

Future Outlook

Innospace’s efforts to secure launch site access in Canada and establish partnerships with regional players reflect its ambition to become a key provider of flexible and rapid launch solutions. The company’s focus on small-to-medium launch vehicles positions it to cater to the increasing demand for dedicated launches among commercial satellite operators, government agencies, and defense contractors.

As the global space industry continues to grow, collaborations like the one between Innospace and RSAT Space highlight the importance of cross-border partnerships in addressing the evolving needs of the satellite launch market. The agreement is expected to pave the way for further joint ventures and business opportunities in North America and beyond.
