Shanghai, China – Shares of Insta360, the Chinese manufacturer of 360-degree action cameras, surged nearly fourfold in their public debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange on June 12, 2025. The dramatic increase in valuation to approximately 71 billion yuan (roughly $9.9 billion) has propelled the company’s 33-year-old founder, Liu Jingkang, into billionaire status.

Trading under the name Arashi Vision, the Shenzhen-based company raised 1.94 billion yuan ($270 million) in its initial public offering (IPO) on the STAR Market, a board focused on technology and innovation. The stock opened at 182 yuan, a 285% jump from the IPO price of 47.27 yuan, peaking at almost 188 yuan before closing at 177 yuan. As of February 13, 2026, Arashi Vision is trading at 224.7 yuan.

The IPO represents the largest listing on the STAR Market this year, with proceeds earmarked primarily for future research and development initiatives. This influx of capital comes as Insta360 continues to gain traction in the competitive action camera and videography market.

Liu Jingkang, also known as JK Liu, is now estimated to be worth $2.7 billion, according to Forbes, based on his roughly 26.8% stake in the company, including shares held by his wife. This makes him the 1,208th richest person in the world, with a net worth of $3.4 billion as of recent estimates.

A graduate in computer science from Nanjing University, Liu founded Insta360 in 2015. He was previously recognized on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list in 2017. In a speech delivered at the listing ceremony in Shanghai, Liu reflected on the company’s origins, stating, “Ten years ago, we walked out of the dormitory of Nanjing University, with just very few resources and very big dreams. Ten years have passed, and our flagship devices have progressed from ONE X to X5…the further we go, the clearer our original vision has become.”

Insta360’s product portfolio includes its ‘X’ series of 360-degree action cameras, known for their high-resolution spherical video capabilities, and the ‘Go’ series of compact, lightweight action cameras. The company has become a significant player among videographers and content creators globally.

In 2024, Insta360 reported revenue of 5.6 billion yuan ($779.9 million), a 53% increase year-over-year. Net profit reached 994.7 million yuan, representing a 19.9% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is attributed to strong domestic sales and expanding international presence, particularly in the United States, Europe, and Japan, where 76% of total revenue originated in 2024, including $1.3 billion in sales from the US.

The company currently employs approximately 2,000 people across its global offices in China, the United States, Japan, and Germany. Insta360 has outlined plans to further expand its international market penetration.

Prior to the IPO, Insta360 secured backing from prominent investors including Qiming Venture Partners, IDG Capital, Xunlei, and Suning Holdings Group. In 2019, the company raised $30 million in funding from investors such as Everest Venture Capital, MG Holdings, and Huajin Capital.

Chinese state media has dubbed Insta360 a “little giant,” recognizing its status as a rapidly growing technology company with significant potential in the consumer electronics sector.

However, Insta360 faces potential headwinds from ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China. The company acknowledged in its prospectus that uncertainties surrounding overseas business expansion have increased due to potential changes in U.S. Tariff policies since February. Competition within the action camera industry also remains fierce, with GoPro and DJI identified as key competitors.

Insta360’s success is particularly noteworthy given the challenges faced by established action camera brands like GoPro. The company’s X5 camera has been lauded for addressing user issues with previous models and surpassing GoPro in several key areas, prompting GoPro CEO Nick Woodman to waive his salary as a response to the competitive pressure.

The launch of the Ace Pro 2, featuring a larger image sensor and higher resolution than GoPro’s offerings, further demonstrates Insta360’s commitment to innovation. Rumors circulating on Chinese social media suggest the company is already developing another new camera model, hinting at continued product development.
