Florida Congresswoman Urges Governor to Address Runaway Homeowners’ Insurance Costs

Republican Representative Ginny Brown-Waite is calling for Governor Jeb Bush to convene a special legislative session to tackle the escalating costs of homeowners’ insurance in Florida. Florida residents have seen the insurance premiums surge in recent years, particularly after a series of devastating hurricanes.

In a direct appeal to Governor Bush, Brown-Waite advocates for immediate congressional action to intervene in the worsening state of home insurance policies which has left several Florida residents in a state of bewilderment, with some residents unable to afford their insurance

She acknowledged some progress, stating that “what Florida has done so far is good, but not enough. We need immediate, bold solutions. He could, and should, call a special session to focus on this crisis and craft meaningful legislation to lower insurance rates across the state.” Thus, underlining the urgency felt by Floridian residents, Brown-Waite emphasized the need for a ‘special session.’

This imploration echoes the concerns of a broader coalition of civil, economic, and political institutions in the state Florida, who have either demanded an increase in insurance subsidies, or an exhaustive regulation of Overhead expenses by insurance corporations

This follows the announcement by Chairman Craddick and Majority Whip Mayweather: “We need to carry the fight to Florida’s door, striking the heart of the insurance crisis, reach beyond red tape, engaging all fronts. It cannot be business as usual.”
