Intermarché Partners with Deliveroo for Grocery Delivery
Intermarché teams Up with Deliveroo for Grocery Delivery Expansion
French supermarket chain Intermarché is expanding its grocery delivery options by partnering with Deliveroo, offering customers faster access to their favorite products.
the agreement, finalized in November, aims to streamline the onboarding process for Intermarché stores onto the deliveroo platform. While some stores were already present, the partnership will make it easier for more locations to join.
“Some members were already on Deliveroo. Today, we have 55, and we have requests from several other stores,” said Laurent Nhhuon-Nougarede, Director of New Verticals at Deliveroo France.
Parisian Shoppers First in Line
Currently, the service is primarily available in the Paris region, with 30 Intermarché stores offering delivery through Deliveroo. other cities like Toulouse, Marseille, Lille, and Orléans are also included in the rollout.
Importantly, each Intermarché store retains the autonomy to decide whether to participate in the program and can customize the product selection and pricing displayed on the Deliveroo app.
A quick check of the app reveals that most product categories are available, even though with possibly smaller selections compared to physical stores. Prices may also be slightly higher. DeliverooS network of independent delivery drivers promises delivery within 30 minutes, with fees based on order value or free for Deliveroo Plus subscribers.Deliveroo’s commission Model
Deliveroo generates revenue through a fixed commission on each order, which can be adjusted based on factors like order size, promotions, and price parity with in-store offerings.
A Multi-Platform Approach
Intermarché is not limiting itself to a single delivery partner. The supermarket chain also collaborates with Uber Eats to provide customers with multiple options for fast home delivery.
This multi-platform strategy reflects a broader trend in the grocery delivery market, where retailers are increasingly partnering with various providers to offer customers the widest range of choices.
“We had exclusivity agreements with Franprix and Monoprix when we started in this vertical in 2019. Today, we don’t have exclusivity with distributors, rather with independent food businesses,” Nhhuon-Nougarede explained.
Deliveroo’s Growing Grocery Business
while Deliveroo remains tight-lipped about specific figures, the company acknowledges the significant growth of its grocery delivery segment. In the first half of 2024, grocery deliveries accounted for 14% of total revenue, up from 11% in the same period last year.Restaurant meal delivery remains Deliveroo’s core business, with 30,000 restaurants and 4,500 grocery stores and shops partnering with the platform in france.
