Budget 2025: Unplugging Rural Schools and Health Centres, Nurturing Young Minds with Innovation Labs

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a digital boost for rural India, pledging broadband connectivity for all government primary and secondary schools, as well as primary healthcare centres. This connectivity promise aims to bridge the digital divide, ensuring no student or patient is left offline.

But the digital push doesn’t stop at connectivity. In an effort to cultivate curiosity and innovation, the finance minister revealed plans to set up 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) across government schools over the next five years. These labs, equipped with modern technology and design, will provide a creative space where students can experiment, innovate, and learn essential skills.

Citing the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), the minister underscored the government’s commitment to fostering an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit across the country. Apart from ATLs, five national centres for skilling will be established, bringing global expertise to India’s shores. Moreover, a digital revolution in Indian language books is on the cards with the Bharatiya Bhasha Pushtak scheme, making learning more accessible and engaging for students.

This budget is not just about numbers; it’s about empowering the next generation with the tools they need to thrive in the digital age. From connectivity to creativity, rural India is poised for a leap forward in education and innovation.
