Internet Suspended in 12 Haryana Villages Amid Farmers’ Protest
Haryana Villages Brace for Internet Shutdown Amid Renewed Farmer Protests
Ambala, Haryana – Twelve villages in Haryana’s Ambala district will face an internet blackout starting Saturday morning as authorities brace for renewed farmer protests. The “dilli Chalo” agitation, demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support prices for crops, is set to resume with farmers planning to march towards the national capital from the Shambhu border.
The internet shutdown, effective from 6 am Saturday until midnight on December 17, will impact villages including Dangdehri, Lohgarh, Manakpur, Dadiyana, Bari Ghel, Choti Ghel, Lharsa, Kalu Majra, Devi Nagar (Hira Nagar, Naresh Vihar), Saddopur, sultanpur, and Kakru.
Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr. Sumita Misra issued the order following a request from local police, citing concerns about potential unrest and the spread of misinformation.”There is an apprehension of tension, annoyance, agitation, damage of public and private property and disturbance of public peace and tranquillity in the area of district Ambala in view of the call for Delhi-Kooch (march) given by certain farmer organizations,” the order stated.
Officials emphasized that banking and mobile recharge services will remain operational despite the internet shutdown.
The order further explained that the measure aims to prevent the mobilization of agitators through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter, which authorities believe could lead to violence and property damage.
Farmers, under the banner of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM, non-political), are participating in the “Dilli Chalo” agitation, demanding the government address their concerns, including the legal guarantee of minimum support prices for crops.
