Consumerismo No Profit echoed these concerns, labeling the incident a “serious disruption.” President Luigi Gabriel highlighted the increasing frequency of such outages in Italy, citing the recent Worldline incident as a prime example.Just days prior, a fiber optic cable disruption in Switzerland, caused by gas pipeline work, crippled digital payment systems across italy for nearly two days. This outage affected major payment networks like Nexi, Bancomat, Mastercard, and Visa, resulting in widespread disruption for businesses and consumers alike.
Downdetector, a platform that tracks online service outages, recorded over 7,000 reports at the peak of the Intesa sanpaolo outage. While the number of reports decreased throughout the day, many customers continued to experience difficulties accessing their accounts.
Intesa Sanpaolo confirmed that the issue was resolved by the evening, with all online banking services returning to normal functionality. However, the incident raises concerns about the vulnerability of online banking systems and the potential impact of technical glitches on consumers’ financial well-being.
