Investigation Unveils Dark Details of Juan Domingo Godoy’s Murder in Rincón de los Sauces
The Crime of Juan Domingo Godoy
The crime involving Juan Domingo Godoy has roots in prior conflicts, a red motorcycle, and a literal hunt to reclaim it. Godoy’s story ended with three gunshots. The investigation includes security camera footage, biological evidence, and specific testimonies gathered by CENAF 5 in Rincón de los Sauces.
On Saturday, the Juvenile Crimes Prosecutor, Germán Martín, charged a 17-year-old boy with Godoy’s murder. Hours later, Prosecutor Rocío Rivero charged the boy’s father and the partner’s son with "double aggravated homicide due to the use of a weapon and the involvement of a minor." She stated that the crime was planned.
Details of the crime emerged during the hearing, but some aspects remain undisclosed.
Conflict and Violent Revenge
Godoy had an argument with his partner late Wednesday into Thursday morning. It is unclear if substances influenced the argument or if those who planned the crime were involved.
Godoy took a red Honda Wave 110 cc motorcycle, which both he and his partner used, and left the house. Meanwhile, Walter Mercado, the partner’s son, coordinated with Hugo Lagos and his teenage son to retrieve the motorcycle. They set out to find Godoy in a blue Ecosport.
Around 2:30 AM on Thursday, they located Godoy on Córdoba street near Almafuerte. The teenager fired three shots, hitting Godoy twice in the glutes and once in the back.
Godoy lay in the street as the boy stole the motorcycle and fled, while his father and friend escaped in the Ecosport. In their hurry, the teenager crashed into a parked car on José Hernández street. This incident was recorded by security cameras, yielding biological evidence that will be analyzed.
The teenager returned the motorcycle to Godoy’s partner’s home and told her, "I got the motorcycle back and taught him a lesson."
CENAF 5 officers, familiar with Rincón de los Sauces, gathered crucial testimonies that contributed significantly to the investigation. These insights and camera footage led to arrests related to the crime.
Community Anger
Hugo Lagos, the father of the accused teenager, has a farm outside Rincón de los Sauces. A history of tension between Lagos and the Godoy family is important in this case. Three months prior, César Godoy, the victim’s brother, attempted to enter a field but was assaulted by Lagos.
César Godoy reported the incident, leading to Lagos receiving a suspended sentence for assault and threats just days before the murder.
Lagos faces four months of preventive detention, which he must serve outside Rincón de los Sauces. Mercado also received four months of preventive detention in the local police station. The shooter, being a minor, will not face long-term detention.
In a few days, the biological evidence collected from the accident scene will undergo testing against the teenager’s DNA. If matched, it could seriously impact the young man’s legal situation, particularly due to the scientific validity of such evidence.
