Apple Re-Enables “Tap to Provision” Feature Ahead of iOS 18 Release
September 15, 2024
The official iOS 18 release is approaching on September 17, but Apple has reactivated the “Tap to provision” (Tap to get ready) Apple Wallet feature. This feature allows users to add eligible credit and debit cards to Apple Wallet by simply tapping the card on the back of their iPhone.
Is “Tap to Provision” Coming to Japan?
Although Apple has not confirmed whether this feature will be available in Japan, it seems likely. The company has mentioned that “Tap to Provision will not be introduced in all markets,” but the feature’s usefulness suggests it may be rolled out globally.
How Does “Tap to Provision” Work?
Tap to provision enables users to add eligible credit and debit cards to Apple Wallet by simply tapping the card on the back of their iPhone. This feature is part of Apple’s efforts to enhance the mobile payment experience.
iPhone Touch Payment Introduced in Japan
In Japan, a similar feature called “iPhone touch payment” was introduced in May. This feature allows users to make contactless payments using only their iPhone, without the need for an external terminal.
Apple Intelligence Not Yet Available on iOS 18
Apple Intelligence, a feature exclusive to the iPhone 16 series, will not be available when iOS 18 is released. However, Apple has released a roadmap showing how Apple Intelligence features will be developed, giving users an idea of future plans.
