Apple Advances End-to-End Encryption for RCS Messaging
Apple announced in March 2025 its intention to support end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for RCS messages, following the GSM Association’s standardization of the feature. After a year of no public updates, the latest iOS beta suggests Apple is preparing to launch the capability.
Carrier Control and French Regulations
References to a new carrier bundle setting allowing carriers to enable or disable E2EE for RCS messages were discovered in iOS 26.3 beta 2, as reported by Tiino-X83 on X.
Tiino-X83 also observed that this code appears only for the four largest mobile carriers in France – Bouygues, Orange, SFR, and free – and not for any other carrier examined internationally.
