Apple is developing new iOS features that will display contextual smart-home controls directly inside the Dynamic Island when an iPhone is near compatible accessories, according to code analysis published by the leaker pdfu. The functionality relies on Bluetooth Low Energy and NFC tags, appearing across software builds including iOS 27.0 and iOS 27.2, though Apple has not officially confirmed the plans. The function is reportedly still in development and has not been officially confirmed by Apple or LG.
Dynamic Island Controls and Proximity Detection
When an iPhone approaches supported smart-home devices or taps an NFC-enabled tag, the Dynamic Island will present quick options to open specific control elements. Security cameras and video doorbells will trigger an immediate live camera preview rather than standard buttons. Devices lacking a Dynamic Island, along with all iPad models, will instead display a notification banner on screen for approximately 30 seconds. Users can completely disable this proximity feature through the Home app settings.

Pre-Pairing and Hardware Partnerships with LG
Code found in device firmware indicates an unannounced hardware lineup developed alongside LG, encompassing seven distinct products. The hardware list features a doorbell, a smart lock, a thermostat, a temperature sensor, and three cameras covering indoor, outdoor, and floodlight configurations. Firmware analysis of the locks and thermostats revealed an NXP SE051H Secure Element utilizing a HomeKit applet. This configuration supports a pre-pairing process where NFC data can transfer network credentials to HomeKit accessories even while the hardware remains powered off. Once plugged in, the devices automatically connect via Wi-Fi or Thread to finalize setup. Although the Matter 1.6 specification already includes unpowered NFC setup and iOS 27 supports standard Matter NFC, the findings point toward specific adjustments. Additionally, a table for third-party products in iOS 27.2 contains ten identifiers, including six for LG and four for Schneider Electric.

Upcoming Apple Hardware Event
Apple has scheduled an official media event titled Welcome home for October 13, 2026. Industry speculation points to possible hardware unveilings including a smart-home control hub featuring an integrated display, an updated HomePod mini, and a new generation of Apple TV, although the company has not confirmed these product announcements ahead of the date. However, according to a report by the news agency Bloomberg, LG devices are expected in a few months at the earliest.
