EMC Insurance and Mainframe Studios Honored with AIA Iowa Awards

Two Iowa organizations, EMC Insurance and Mainframe​ Studios, have been selected to receive Community Enhancement Awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Iowa. The ⁢awards recognize projects that significantly improve ⁢the quality of life⁤ in Iowa communities through thoughtful ⁣architecture‌ and design.

EMC​ Insurance:‍ Enhancing Downtown ‍Des Moines

EMC Insurance received the Community Enhancement through Architecture and Design Award for its thorough downtown Des Moines projects. These initiatives included improvements to the company’s corporate headquarters,the creation⁤ of convenient skywalk connections,and the ⁢development of​ EMC Downtown Park, a vibrant public space in⁣ the heart of the city. The park, opened​ in 2018, provides a green oasis ​for workers and residents ​alike, hosting events and⁤ offering ⁤a respite⁣ from the‍ urban environment.

Mainframe Studios: Revitalizing a Historic Building

Mainframe Studios earned the Community⁢ Enhancement through ⁢Historic⁤ Vitalization Award for its successful repurposing of a former Brutalist-style building. The organization ⁣transformed the structure into a thriving creative workspace, now home to ‍over 200 artists. Mainframe Studios provides affordable studio space, exhibition opportunities,⁤ and a⁢ supportive community for artists working‌ in ⁣a variety of disciplines. The building, ⁢originally constructed ⁣in 1973 as a state office building, exemplifies adaptive reuse‍ and demonstrates the power of design to⁤ breathe new life into underutilized spaces.
