The Iowa Nonprofit Alliance (INA), a statewide association representing 23,000 nonprofit organizations, has appointed alex Rice as its first full-time executive director. Rice, a West Des Moines native, brings experience in nonprofit leadership, international service, and youth programming to the role.

Rice’s career includes service in the Peace Corps in West Africa and roles at the YMCA. Most recently, she served as executive director of Willkie House, a Des Moines-based nonprofit focused on youth and family services. She holds a master’s degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon University.
The Iowa Nonprofit Alliance aims to strengthen the impact of Iowa’s nonprofit community. Outgoing Director Bethany Snyder guided INA through notable growth in membership, programming, and visibility since its founding in 2022.
“Nonprofits are the backbone of our state, providing essential services, fostering community and advocating for equity and prospect. I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and working with partners across the state to amplify the voice and impact of Iowa’s nonprofit sector,” Rice said.
Snyder navigated challenges including executive orders and funding cuts during her tenure. Jordan DeGree, INA board chair, praised Snyder’s leadership and commitment to Iowa’s nonprofits.
“bethany has been a tireless advocate for the sector,” DeGree said. “Her leadership, vision and deep commitment to Iowa’s nonprofits have positioned INA for long-term success. We are grateful for her service and the legacy she leaves behind and are excited about INA’s next chapter with Alex.”
