Iowa Women’s Basketball Secures 20th Win, Defeats Nebraska 80-67
LINCOLN, Neb. — Ava Heiden recorded a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Taylor Stremlow added a career-best 17 points, leading No. 13 Iowa to an 80-67 victory over Nebraska on Monday. The win marked Iowa’s 20th of the season and secured the Hawkeyes’ 10th consecutive 20-win campaign.
Heiden’s performance was instrumental in building a substantial lead for Iowa, contributing 18 points on an efficient 8-of-9 shooting in the first half, helping the Hawkeyes establish a 45-27 advantage at halftime.
Nebraska attempted a comeback early in the third quarter, initiating a 10-1 run to narrow the deficit to 52-41. However, the Cornhuskers were unable to sustain the momentum and close the gap further.
Iowa extended its lead to as many as 27 points, reaching a 76-49 margin with 7:54 remaining in the fourth quarter, effectively sealing the victory.
Chazadi Wright contributed 14 points and seven assists for Iowa, while Journey Houston added 10 points off the bench. Heiden finished the game shooting 12-of-15 from the field and Stremlow was successful on her first six shot attempts.
Britt Prince led Nebraska with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Eliza Maupin added 11 points, and Amiah Hargrove scored 10 for the Cornhuskers, who have now lost five consecutive games. Prince also saw a streak of 56 consecutive free throws made come to an end during the game.
Iowa’s win over Nebraska continued a trend of dominance in the series, with the Hawkeyes having won 13 of the last 15 meetings between the two teams.
Iowa (20-5, 11-3 Big Ten) will continue its road trip with a game against Purdue on Thursday. Nebraska (16-10, 5-10) will travel to Oregon to face the Ducks on Thursday as they seek to break their losing streak.
