Apple and Google have introduced budget-friendly alternatives to their flagship handsets, targeting consumers seeking a primary device under $600. The iPhone 17e and the Google Pixel 10a provide accessible entry points into the iOS and Android ecosystems, respectively.

Pricing for the two devices varies by retailer. According to PCMag, the Google Pixel 10a starts at $499, while AT&T lists the retail price starting at $519.99. The iPhone 17e starts at $599 per PCMag, with AT&T listing a starting retail price of $599.99.

Performance and Hardware Specifications

The devices differ significantly in processing power and software. The iPhone 17e is equipped with the Apple A19 chipset and runs iOS 26. PhoneArena notes that this gives the iPhone 17e a raw performance advantage over its competitor.

The Pixel 10a runs Android 16 and utilizes the Google Tensor G4 CPU. Here’s the same processor previously used in the Pixel 9a, leading PhoneArena to describe the Pixel 10a as almost identical to its predecessor in terms of hardware.

Display and Industrial Design

Google has equipped the Pixel 10a with a larger 6.3-inch Actua display with a resolution of 2,424 by 1,080 pixels. In comparison, the iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,532 by 1,170 pixels.

The physical footprints of the devices also differ. The iPhone 17e measures 5.78 by 2.82 inches, with a thickness of 0.31 to 0.32 inches, and weighs 6 ounces. The Pixel 10a is larger and heavier, measuring 6.06 by 2.87 inches with a thickness of 0.35 to 0.36 inches and a weight of 6.5 ounces.

Material choices vary between the two manufacturers. The iPhone 17e features a ceramic back, whereas the Pixel 10a uses a composite back. Both devices utilize aluminum frames and carry an IP68 rating, making them dustproof and waterproof up to 20 feet for a duration of 30 minutes.

For aesthetics, the iPhone 17e is available in Black, Soft Pink, and White. The Pixel 10a is offered in Black, White, and Obsidian.

Camera Systems

Testing conducted by PCMag indicates a substantial difference in battery endurance between the two budget models. The iPhone 17e lasted 22 hours and 2 minutes during testing. The Pixel 10a lasted 12 hours and 15 minutes.
