Residents of North Dakota can now securely add their driver’s licenses and state-issued identification cards to the Apple Wallet app on their iPhones and Apple Watches. This digital ID functionality allows for convenient and secure identification at select locations, including U.S. airports and for age verification purposes in retail environments, within apps, and online.

How to Add Your North Dakota ID to Apple Wallet
To add a driver’s license or state ID, North Dakota residents should open the Apple Wallet app, tap the “+” button, and follow the on-screen prompts. The North Dakota DOT requires a $5 fee to obtain a mobile driver’s license.
Acceptance and Important Considerations
Mobile IDs are currently accepted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at over 250 airports nationwide.While digital IDs offer convenience, North Dakota residents should continue carrying their physical driver’s licenses, as digital IDs are not universally accepted.
Expanding Digital ID Availability
Apple first announced the capability to store digital IDs in the Wallet app in 2022, and states have been gradually adopting the technology. As of september 26, 2025, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, Utah, and West Virginia have either implemented support or are actively working towards it.
