WhatsApp Beta Tests In-App Browser for Business Sites on iOS
WhatsApp is experimenting with an in-app browser for business websites within its iOS app, according to recent reports from beta testers. Teh feature, spotted in the latest TestFlight beta release (version 25.14.10.72), aims to keep users within the whatsapp habitat when accessing certain web content.
In-App Browsing for Enhanced User Experience
Previously, tapping a link within WhatsApp would automatically launch the user’s default external browser, possibly disrupting their messaging flow. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, is addressing this by integrating a dedicated browser directly into the app.
The new in-app browser loads web content directly within WhatsApp, provided specific criteria are met. Currently, only business websites using the HTTPS protocol are eligible for in-app viewing. This suggests a focus on secure and verified business interactions within the platform.
Users who prefer to open links in their default browser still have that option. A menu accessible via a button in the upper-right corner of the in-app browser screen allows users to select their preferred browsing method.
Limited Beta Rollout, Wider Release Expected Soon
The in-app browser functionality is currently available to a limited number of beta testers on iOS. Though, a wider rollout is anticipated in the coming weeks. An identical feature has reportedly been available on android for a short period, indicating a cross-platform strategy.
The move to integrate an in-app browser reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and streamline interactions with businesses directly within the messaging platform.
