Iran reportedly targeted an Amazon data facility in Bahrain amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to reports from April 1 and 2, 2026. The attack, which involved a strike on a cloud computing facility linked to Amazon Web Services (AWS), follows recent threats from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeting American firms operating in the region.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry confirmed a fire broke out at a commercial site following the attack, stating that civil defense teams successfully brought the blaze under control. However, officials have not disclosed the name of the company involved, nor have they provided details regarding casualties or the extent of the damage. Reuters reported, citing the Financial Times, that the Batelco headquarters in Hamala, Bahrain, which houses Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, was the target.
Iran’s Threats to US Companies
The reported strike comes after the IRGC warned of targeting American firms, including Microsoft, Apple, IBM, Tesla, and Amazon, in response to joint US-Israel military actions against Iran. According to a report by Wired, the IRGC warned on Tuesday, April 1, that it plans to begin attacking more than a dozen American companies across the Middle East. The group urged employees of these firms to evacuate and civilians in the region to stay away.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement through Sepah News declaring that “for every assassination, a U.S. Company will be destroyed.” The warning included a deadline of 8:00 PM Tehran time on April 1, and advised civilians within a one-kilometer radius of targeted facilities to evacuate.
Strategic Importance of AWS Infrastructure
Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure in Bahrain plays a key role in the region’s digital backbone, supporting enterprises, financial institutions, and government operations across West Asia. Disruption to these systems, even limited, could impact data access, connectivity, and service delivery across multiple sectors. The IRGC claims these firms are linked to U.S. And Israeli military operations through technology and artificial intelligence support, alleging they help in “planning and tracking targets” used in strikes against Iran.

Previous Attacks and Expanding Tensions
Earlier in March, Iranian drones reportedly struck two Amazon Web Services data centers and damaged another in the United Arab Emirates, causing disruptions to banking sites, payment processors, and consumer services. According to Interesting Engineering, Tesla’s growing network of public sites in the Gulf region also faces risk amid the escalating tensions. The IRGC has also threatened companies including Cisco, HP, Intel, Oracle, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, IBM, Dell, Palantir, Nvidia, JPMorgan Chase, General Electric, Boeing, Spire Solutions, and UAE-based AI firm G42.
The situation remains fluid, with ongoing concerns about further escalation in the region. The attacks highlight the increasing vulnerability of critical infrastructure to geopolitical conflicts and the potential for widespread disruption to digital services.
