Iran Breaks Silence: President Offers Historic Olive Branch to US for Nuclear Deal Revival
Iranian President Open to Direct Talks with US to Restore Nuclear Deal
Iranian President Masoud Pezekian expressed his willingness to engage in direct talks with the United States to restore the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
During a press conference in Tehran, President Pezeshkian stated that direct talks with the US are possible if the country demonstrates a non-hostile approach towards Iran. He emphasized that Iran is not hostile towards the US and expects the same goodwill in return.
President Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of ending the US’s hostile policy towards Iran, citing the need for improved relations and economic cooperation. He also mentioned joining the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as a means to address Iran’s economic challenges.
The Iran nuclear deal, signed in 2015, involves six countries: the US, the UK, France, China, Russia, and Germany. The agreement aims to ease economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for the country’s commitment to curtail its nuclear development.
However, the deal was compromised in 2018 when former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and imposed sanctions on Iran.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has suggested that the UN General Assembly meeting this month could be an opportunity to discuss the restoration of the nuclear deal.
